The aim is to make experimentation feel less gated by compute.
VantaFold is focused on designing highly efficient deep learning methods and architectures, especially ideas that could match parts of the capability of much heavier systems with far less compute.
The motivation is access. New student researchers should be able to rely on interesting architectures, methods, and experiments instead of being gated by extreme computing power.
Beyond efficiency, there is also interest in fun ML: creative and unorthodox applications of machine learning that stay small enough to build, test, and understand.
Right now, VantaFold is early-stage and independently run. It is a way to structure ideas and experiments, not a guarantee of specific outcomes. The challenge is to see how the methods hold up in practice.
